The ambitious psychiatrist Dr. Jonathan Banks does everything he can to help his new patient Emily Taylor, who was admitted to him after a suicide attempt. Emily's husband, who had spent the last few years in prison for insider trading, has just been released. But their attempt to start a new life together fails. The same applies to the effectiveness of the medication prescribed by Banks. Banks contacts Emily's former psychiatrist, who advises him to test a new drug on Emily. Initially, she gets better, but soon the side effects prove to be extremely dramatic. After a mysterious murder, Banks feels increasingly out of control, not only of his patient but also of his own life. He decides to risk everything in his search for the truth: his family, his profession, his reputation - when he uncovers an unbelievable suspicion...
