300 is the relentless film adaptation of the historical Battle of Thermopylae: In ancient Greece, King Leonidas and 300 Spartans died fighting Xerxes and his gigantic Persian army. Their courage and willingness to sacrifice in the face of a hopeless situation inspired the Greek tribes to unite against the Persians – thus forming a primordial cell of democracy. 300 is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same name. His adventure epic is about passion, courage, the desire for freedom, and self-sacrifice – embodied by the Spartans, who proved themselves in one of history's most famous battles.
