Europe in the 14th century: the plague rages and the merciless witch hunt has begun. After years of crusades, the Knights Templar Behmen and Felson return exhausted, disillusioned and weary of fighting. Only reluctantly do they accept a final mission from the mortally ill Cardinal D'Ambroise: they are to transport a girl, who is blamed as a witch for the spread of the deadly epidemic, to a remote monastery. There, a mysterious ritual awaits them, which is supposed to break her power and thus put a stop to the devastating plague. Led by the rogue Hagamar, the only one who knows the way to the monastery, Behmen and Felson set off on their journey. Knight Eckhart, the monk Debelzaq, and the aspiring knight Kay join the unequal companions. But the mission quickly proves to be far more dangerous than assumed, because upon their arrival at the monastery, the true reason for their journey is revealed to them…
